A.      Massive Greenland Block(strongly –AO/-NAO)

B.      PV has now elongated East-West and split into two, thus allowing the system to track further up the coast.  Models earlier in the week had one large PV and suppressed system to the south.

C.      Strong shortwaves imbedded within the long-wave trough and slow-moving pattern allows system to dump snow.  Cold Air and blocking to the north offsets strong warm advection from the system(all snow event).  System about to go ka-boom!!!

D.   Strong Ridge over the Western US, so there has to be a strong trough over the Eastern US(Newton’s 3rd Law: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction).  The Ridge cuts off Pacifc Jet and no “kickers” to move system quickly out to sea.
